Défense Zone is a magazine designed to inform you and help you better understand defence and security issues in France, but also around the world.
Défense Zone also pays particular attention to images. For all our publications, we take care to find the best photos and so showcase the work of photographers. That is what the “Zone Image” section is for. In this new issue, the DZ team has chosen to present the work of a Gironde fire service photographer, taken during the fires that hit the South-West this summer.
Firefighter and photographer
The departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS) has around fifteen volunteer photographers in its ranks. Among them, Corporal Damien Rembert, 28, wears several hats. A professional firefighter in Bruges, he also serves as a volunteer firefighter in his free time. It was in that capacity that he approached the communication unit of the Gironde SDIS to offer his services.
Today Damien attends all the major call-outs, notably the forest fires of recent weeks that have ravaged south-western France.

Close to the action
When he is not holding the fire hose, Damien still stays close to the action with his camera. Like around fifteen of his fellow SDIS 33 photographers, he documents, day and night, each of the biggest call-outs of the region’s emergency services.
