DÉFENSE ZONE
Our new print magazine is available in our online bookshop and for our Premium subscribers!
It will be on newsstands throughout France from 10 October 2024.
In this new issue of Défense Zone, we continue to explore the major strategic themes shaping the world of defence. Among them, space is becoming a genuine theatre of military operations.
Our main feature is devoted to military space operations and the Space Command, key issues for the armed forces. As the militarisation of space accelerates, mastering space technologies is essential to guarantee national and international sovereignty.
This issue also features an exclusive portfolio by Patrick Chauvel, the renowned war photographer, who takes us behind the scenes of the shooting of Pierre Schoendoerffer’s film Diên Biên Phu. Through his photographs, Chauvel captured intense and authentic moments, a reminder of cinema’s power to tell the story of historical conflicts.
On the geopolitical front, in this issue we analyse the armed conflict in Burma, a forgotten crisis but one with major geostrategic stakes. This internal conflict, whose ramifications extend across the region, reveals the complexity of the power struggles in South-East Asia.
Also in international news, we cover the military exercise Ramstein Legacy 2024, which highlights cooperation between NATO members in the face of new security threats at Europe’s gates.
Finally, we offer a practical guide explaining how to become a helicopter gunner. This specialty, at the heart of air-land operations, demands technical skills and unfailing commitment. These subjects, which may seem far apart, are nonetheless at the heart of today’s global strategic concerns.
Understanding defence issues, whether in space, on land or geopolitical, is essential to anticipate future security challenges. We hope this issue will shed essential light on these crucial themes.
