The Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, announced a 50-million-euro investment for the DGA Techniques Hydrodynamiques site at Val-de-Reuil during his visit on 15 September 2023. The Normandy site is a key element in the research and development of naval technologies for France.

The investment is part of the Military Programming Law (LPM) enacted this summer. It will fund modernisation work on the former hull test basin by 2030. This funding comes on top of other investments in the region, notably 120 million euros for Air Base 105 at Évreux and some twenty million euros for the branches of the joint directorate at Vernon, bringing the total investment to around 200 million euros.

The Val-de-Reuil site plays a crucial role in renewing the French Navy’s fleet. It is involved in developing new ranges of frigates, nuclear attack submarines and the new next-generation aircraft carrier, due to be launched around 2028. Sébastien Lecornu stressed that the site would continue to be in heavy demand to carry out tests essential to these developments.
