The editorial of supplement #27, July 2025

The 2025 Paris Air Show at Le Bourget was a decisive milestone, revealing the profound transformation of aerospace defence. Faced with geopolitical turbulence and unprecedented threats, the European, and French, industry is reasserting its sovereignty through innovation.

Drones and AI are revolutionising air-land combat. Autonomy and artificial intelligence are redefining warfare. From Dassault’s stealth drone to the European Eurodrone, from intelligent remotely operated munitions to AI-based electronic warfare systems, superiority is being augmented.

Air ambitions also extend to the space race. Europe is embarking on a “forced-march reconquest”. Micro-launchers and international partnerships are reinventing access. Space defence is crucial: Dassault’s Vortex spaceplane, MBDA’s assets (Toutatis) and Thales Alenia Space constellations guarantee vital autonomy.

At the same time, the French strategy for Very High Altitude is taking shape. The Minister of the Armed Forces has laid the foundations of a key approach (detection, rapid action) in this critical zone (20-100 km).

This strategic vision of sovereignty also rests on industrial modernisation and its supply chain. From programmes such as “Aero ExcellenceTM” to Airbus investments in AI and sustainable materials, the goal is a resilient and decarbonised industry. Logistical challenges, digitalised maintenance and cross-cutting innovations bear witness to an industry reinventing itself.

This new monthly supplement from Défense Zone offers you an unrivalled overview of the driving forces of aerospace defence. It illustrates a renewed ambition in which the agility of start-ups and the power of the giants are forging the future.
