At a time when water is becoming ever scarcer and fires are no rarity, the Lyon start-up Zelup has developed a fire hose nozzle that uses six to eight times less water than the nozzles currently in use.

Following a test phase that began in spring 2022, this so-called “two-phase” nozzle has proved not only economical with water but also more effective than an ordinary nozzle. Developed jointly by Zelup and the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP), it should equip firefighters by 2024. This technology relies on adding compressed air to the water, so that fine droplets can be projected at high speed. In addition, the Zelup nozzle proved easier to handle thanks to its reduced weight.

The start-up has already raised €2 million, which will enable it to build an assembly line capable of meeting French and foreign demand.
